Partnering for Development
In 2016, the PRFI announced the launch of its Partnering for Collaborative Development initiative, in which the group will seize catalytic advocacy opportunities. The PRFI’s pilot engagement is in Uganda. Uganda was selected to be the first catalytic opportunity due to its government’s commitment to financial inclusion and the significant PRFI representation there — eight members have local partners present, reaching 2.7 million clients.
The work in Uganda incorporates engagements with local partners and regulators. The Working Group conducted research to better understand the status of financial inclusion in Uganda and determined why and where there are pockets of exclusion. By forming strategic alliances with local partners, the PRFI hopes to alleviate or eliminate these pockets of exclusion while continuing to support the adoption of strong consumer protection standards and practices.
As the pilot engagement in Uganda moves forward and additional opportunities are identified, the PRFI and its local partners will continue to identify specific programmatic efforts to advance financial inclusion and financial consumer protection.
